Uncompahgre Engineering's Owner - David Ballode - was raised in southwestern Colorado and the company was named after the surrounding Uncompahgre National Forest. 

 

After graduating from Colorado School of Mines in 1985, David worked on various earthwork construction projects thoughout the Four Corners region.

 

​In 1989, he moved to northern California and worked as a Civil Engineer, specializing in road design and the hydrology and drainage design associated with such work.  Moving to Telluride, Colorado in 1994, he owned and operated Telluride Gravel until 2000 when the business was sold to Oldcastle, staying on as General Manager for another three years.  

 

After leaving the business in 2003, David once again began practicing Civil Engineering.  After one more foray into the gravel business - starting and selling Montrose Sand & Gravel in 2006 - David has been working as a full-time Civil Engineer.
